When my daughter calls, she greets me one of two ways. Hi! means it's a purely social call. Hi, how are you? means she is going to ask me to do something for her. It never fails. I got a Hi, how are you? a couple of days ago, so I'm babysitting tonight. I really don't mind since they have cable and I get to watch movies. She also has great snack food at her house. The kids will be asleep so it should be no problem. Big Mother's Day celebration tomorrow. I'll take notes and report back.

Why I'm here
Actually, I am Shy and Retiring despite my brief stint as a choruster in The Pirates of Penzance (see above pic), but not afraid to let others know what I'm thinking or feeling-within reason, of course. This blog will record my odyssey from "working- stiff" to retirement and inevitable curmudgeon hood. I hope to describe some of the the twists, turns, and gyrations that I anticipate I will need to go through to allow me to feel that I have remained a productive human being. I also reserve the right to make sardonic comment on the ironies and visiccitudes of life as I experience them.
